For those who live in Minnesota like I do, welcome to day 23 of self-isolation! Hopefully everyone is having a great weekend and for those who can’t remember what day it is today it’s Sunday! What did you do this weekend? I discovered a new series on Netflix, “Married at First Sight”. Love it and spent most my day yesterday watching it. Let’s be honest I would have done that without a stay at home order😊! I also got outside. Last Sunday it was snowing in Minnesota and yesterday it was 65 degrees so spent a lot of time outside. (Can’t believe I am writing about weather but I am a Midwesterner so do as the Midwesterner’s do!) Anyways, as I mentioned a few weeks ago I am sharing things that have been making my life better in self-isolation and I started off this series discussing my obsession with Brené Brown and her new podcast, “Unlocking Us” . If you haven’t read the blog take a look here.
The next thing that has been making my life better in self-isolation I discovered a few years ago. It’s the Peloton app. (Please notice I did not say Peloton bike but Peloton app! Big difference in price.) I used to love going to the gym but after a prolonged period of dealing with vertigo the gyms were to much for my senses while I was recovering. So, I began looking for a way to workout at home that would feel like I was at the gym with people and also offered a variety classes. What I discovered was Peloton!
What is Peloton?
For those not familiar with Peloton, Peloton is a popular in-home, connected workout service that has grown like crazy in the few past years. They offer a variety of classes (cycling, strength, yoga, etc.) but they are most known for their Peloton bike which is an indoor-cycling bike with a touchscreen tablet attached to it that you can purchase for $2,245 and to utilize the app you pay an additional $39 – $50 a month (my reaction – holy shit! That’s expensive!)
For those of you don’t know me I am frugal so there was no way I was going to spend that much on a bike that could potentially turn into a coat rack! I do love spin and I liked the concept of Peloton so I researched alternatives and this is what I ended up doing and I love it and the cost!
Peloton Alternative Solution
I purchased the Sunny Health & Fitness Evolution Cycling Bike on Amazon for $485 which was delivered to my house for free and I pay $14.02 per month for the app which I stream through my TV. Through this solution I am able to take advantage of all the classes they have to offer including cycling. To date, I have completed over 130 workouts! Personally, I love the classes taught by Leanne Hainsby!
Here is what you don’t get with the alternative solution:
Access to the Peloton leaderboard which contains information on how you’re performing, both against others who are taking / have taken the class as well as how you’ve performed in the past. In other words, you won’t be given any stats for your ride.
I was fine forgoing the capability because it meant I saved $1760 on the bike and over $300 a year for access to the app plus I still get in great workouts.
If you have any questions about the Peloton alternative/app let me know! Big night tonight. I pick up groceries and there is chocolate in the order so I will be getting chocolate wasted! Hey, I work out so it’s all good 😊! Stay healthy and stay sane.
