Happy New Year everyone! If you are contemplating buying the Peloton bike but hesitating because of the price you are not alone! I love spin classes so when I saw the advertisement for Peloton I fell in love and I wanted it. Unfortunately, my budget conscious kicked it and while I don’t think the price is unreasonable before I pulled the trigger I did some research to look for alternatives and below is what I ended up going with.
What is Peloton?
For those not familiar with Peloton, Peloton is a popular in-home, connected workout service that has grown like crazy in the few past years. They offer a variety of classes (cycling, strength, yoga, etc.) but they are most known for their Peloton bike which is an indoor-cycling bike with a touchscreen tablet attached to it that you can purchase for $2,245 and to utilize the app you pay an additional $39 – $50 a month.
Dilemma
While I love the Peloton concept, when I have tried other at home workouts I did not like them. I am one who likes the gym experience so when I saw the advertisement for Peloton it appeared to give you the gym experience but at home. Since the price point for Peloton was higher I wanted to find an alternative that would allow me to test it out and if I didn’t like it I wouldn’t be out of a lot of money. Below is what I ended up doing and I have been using the alternative for a couple of years and have completed over 300 workouts on the Peloton app.
Peloton Alternative Solution
I purchased the Sunny Health & Fitness Evolution Cycling Bike on Amazon for $485 which was delivered to my house for free and I pay $14.02 per month for the app which I stream through my TV. Through this solution I am able to take advantage of all the classes they have to offer including cycling. Personally, I love the classes taught by Leanne Hainsby!

Here is what you don’t get with the alternative solution:
Access to the Peloton leaderboard which contains information on how you’re performing, both against others who are taking / have taken the class as well as how you’ve performed in the past. In other words, you won’t be given any stats for your ride. I was fine forgoing the capability because it meant I saved $1760 on the bike and over $300 a year for access to the app plus I still get in great workouts.
Knowing what I know now I would not have regretted purchasing the original Peloton bike but since I have not had any issues with the alternative solution I am currently using I don’t have any reason to switch at this time. If you are contemplating buying a Peloton hopefully this helps you in your decision-making process. If you have any questions about the Peloton alternative/app let me know!
