Who would have thought in one month our lives would collectively be turned upside down into a new normal!? My new normal is deciding if it’s worth the effort to shower for the day or trying to remember if I showered that day. Going to work in the same pjs everyday which I highly recommend you do not do :/. Feeling the need to go to the kitchen every 30 minutes. Finding entertainment in online grocery shopping and looking forward to the day when groceries are delivered and seeing what I received vs. what I ordered. It’s also a time of new discoveries so I wanted to share new things that have been making my life better in self-isolation!
First up, I have an obsession and have loved her for many years; Brené Brown. I love her and all that she has to say! Who is Brené Brown you might ask? She is a well-renowned emotional researcher focused on shame, vulnerability and courage. She became well-known after she delivered her famous TED Talk, “The Power of Vulnerability”. If you haven’t seen it it’s fantastic!
One night while I was watching 60 minutes (don’t judge love the show and watch it every Sunday) she was on! She was on because she was launching her new podcast called “Unlocking Us”. I love podcasts so I immediately went and listened to her first episode titled, FFTs. FFT stands for Fucking First Times. As Brené said so perfectly, “ I don’t know about you but this is the first fucking global pandemic I have been through!” It’s a time that we are fearful of the unknown and a time when we need to find the courage to get through the tough times. There are a lot of emotions that we are experiencing that we can’t quite understand and she talks about that by naming what we are going through we can start to understand it, normalize it, put into perspective the feelings are not permanent, and realize it’s going to suck for awhile but this will not last forever. Brené Brown provides the good pep talk you didn’t know you needed!
She has lots of great insights to share that are relatable so if you are looking for a new podcast to listen to check hers out. She posts new episodes every Wednesday. If you are looking for a Netflix recommendation, check out her documentary titled, “The Call to Courage”. It’s so good.
I hope everyone is having a great Easter! For those following my series on online styling services I have been working on my next review of M.M.LaFleur.
